Catholics for End to Iraq War-Petition

My son Ben died in Iraq - it's time for Catholics to end the war

Dear fellow Catholic,

Four years ago, a roadside bomb killed my son, US Army Lt. Ben Colgan, while he was serving in Baghdad. Words cannot describe my loss. Ben was a true soldier's soldier, and he served and sacrificed for our country with honor.

As a Catholic, a father, and a veteran, I ask you to join me in calling for a responsible end to the war in Iraq. Our troops are serving with courage and dignity, but our political leaders have put them in an impossible situation. I believe that the best way to support our troops is for our leaders to begin bringing them home.

Will you join me in calling for a timely and responsible end
to the war in Iraq by signing this petition?

Some think the only way to solve the conflict in Iraq is to send more American forces. I disagree. I believe increased diplomacy, development by and for Iraqis, and a withdrawal of American forces is the best chance we have of achieving peace in Iraq.

Let's work on bringing true peace to Iraq.

Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and the US Catholic Bishops were all clearly opposed to the invasion of Iraq. And just this past Monday, the Papal Nuncio to the United Nations asked the international community to deliver a forceful no to war and the culture of death, and an equally forceful yes to human dignity and respect for life. Now is the time for Catholics to act on our faith to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end.

Catholics can make the difference. We represent one out of every four voters in this country, and when we speak our minds in large numbers, our political leaders have to listen to us.

Time is of the essence, as Congress is currently debating what course to take in Iraq. Catholics for an End to the War in Iraq will hand deliver this petition to our leaders in Congress once we reach 20,000 signatures. Will you please join me and sign the petition?

Sincerely,

Joe Colgan
Father of Lt. Ben J. Colgan, US Army
